In this dialog, I took three things that three different people wrote on a “Before I die wall” a couple of years ago at the Millpond Music Festival and tried to bring them together in a little story.
Three wishes
“What do you want to do before you die?”
“I don’t know—that’s pretty heavy for 8am isn’t it?”
“Is it? Come on, you’ve had your coffee haven’t you? I know what I’d like to do.”
“Oh yeah, what’s that?”
“So, you’re an actor then?”
“No, not really.”
“Wait—how the heck are you going to win an Oscar then?”
“You know you can win an Oscar for more than just acting, right?”
“Oh yeah, of course. Best director—best soundtrack.”
“Well, it’s best Original Score actually.”
“So, you can’t get it for putting a bunch of bitching songs together then huh?”
“No. Not unless you write those bitching songs yourself.”
“So you write music then?”
“No.”
“What then?”
“I want to make a documentary film.”
“About what?”
“There’s no such thing is there?”
“What, no such thing as a perfect mate?”
“Yeah, no such thing. Seems like a recipe for disaster. Might as well film a documentary on petting a unicorn. It’s fool’s errand.”
“Well, I could prove you wrong , and win my Oscar.”
“I’d watch that movie.”
“You would? Are you, deep down, a bit of a dreamer then?”
“I think so. You’ve got to believe in something, right?”
“For sure. Would you watch it with me?”
“What are you saying?”
“I don’t know…I think I’m asking if you’d like to go to a movie sometime?”
“Sure. I’d love to.”
“Great! So you then…what would you like to do before you die?”
“Oh boy, now you are dreaming! Kate Upton?”
“Hell yes, Kate Upton!”
“Whatever.”
“Where you going?”
